02 our story

From Norwood 6 to building a national network.

My hair started going at 23 and didn't stop until I was a Norwood 6, the classic horseshoe. I tried everything: scalp tattoo, medication, fibres, a transplant. None of it gave me what I wanted. Then I fitted my first hair system, and it changed two things at once. It gave me my confidence back, and it told me what I wanted to do with my life.

I've spent the years since in a private studio on the Gold Coast, fitting systems for men who've been where I was. I know the look on a man's face when he sees himself with hair again, and I know what it takes to get that result every time, at any age and any stage of loss.

If you're reading this, you probably do this work too. You know the craft, you've built a loyal client base, and you've hit the ceiling that comes with being one pair of hands in one room. I hit it too. That's the ceiling Tuffs is built to remove.

03 what happens next

From first call to opening day.

    Enquire.

    Fill in the form below. It takes two minutes and commits you to nothing.

  2. 02

    A first call.

    A Tuffs representative will call you within one business day. Over 20 minutes we explore your studio, your goals, and whether Tuffs looks like a fit from both sides.

  3. 03

    The Franchise Pack.

    We send you an information pack: the model, the investment, the fees, what we provide and what we expect.

  4. 04

    Disclosure.

    If you want to go further, you receive the formal documents: the Information Statement, the Disclosure Document and the Franchise Agreement. You have at least 14 days to review them, and we encourage you to take them to your own lawyer and accountant.

  5. 05

    Visit the studio.

    Spend a day with Shannon at Tuffs Academy in the Gold Coast. Watch services at Tuffs by Shannon, see how membership works in practice, and ask anything you like.

  6. 06

    Agreement.

    If it's right for both of us, we sign. You then have a 14-day cooling-off period by law.

  7. 07

    Fitout, training and opening.

    We finalise your studio arrangements, train you and your team to the Tuffs standard, move your clients onto membership (if applicable), and open as Tuffs by [your first name]. Typically under 20 weeks from signing.

What studio owners ask us first.

Can I keep my current premises?

In most cases, yes. If your studio is private, well located and can be brought up to the Tuffs fitout standard, we convert it rather than move you. We assess your space together early on, and the pack sets out what a conversion involves and costs.

What happens to my existing clients?

They come with you, and they stay yours. Your current clients become the founding members of your studio, looked after by the same person they already trust. We help you introduce membership to them.

What happens to my current pricing?

Tuffs studios run on membership rather than one-off sales. For most clients that means a predictable monthly cost in place of a large bill every few months.

Do I need to already own a studio?

Tuffs is built first for established hair system studio owners and experienced technicians. However if you have the craft but not the premises, we still want to hear from you.

What does it cost?

We've designed Tuffs so capital isn't the barrier. Tuffs funds the studio in full, and an owner-operator's share can be financed by Tuffs and repaid from the studio's returns. Your skill and your hours are what we're asking for. The Franchise Pack has the full breakdown.

Will I still be fitting clients myself?

As much or as little as you choose. The model includes a trained, salaried stylist team, so the studio doesn't depend on you being at every chair. Most owners keep their long-standing clients and step back from the rest.

How long until I'm open?

Typically under 20 weeks from signing.
